Degree Overview

The aim of the Clarkson College online Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Healthcare Education & Leadership program is to provide experienced health care and education professionals with a broad-based, interdisciplinary education that will prepare graduates to teach, practice and perform research across the continuum of health care and higher education.

The Ed.D. program offers both part- and full-time study options and aims to help develop your ability to implement innovative approaches in a given health care or higher education environment. The curriculum lays a strong foundation in:

  • learning theories
  • curriculum and program development
  • leadership theory and practice
  • applied research

Coursework in the Ed.D. program focuses heavily on applied research and how to effectively lead in a setting of health care practice/education. Additional coursework in financial management, trends and issues in health care education, organizational behavior and change management, and the legal environment facing health care and higher education settings provide a comprehensive knowledge base applicable in variety of educational leadership settings.

At the culmination of the program, you will complete a dissertation that demonstrates your ability to translate scientific research into methods for improving health care practice through education.

As a graduate of the Ed.D. program, you will have the distinct skill set needed to assess, design, implement and evaluate an educational process or program in both the academic and practice settings.

Nurse Faculty Loan Program

The Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) provides financial assistance to nurses enrolled in the Clarkson College Doctor of Education program or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Nursing Education program option. The NFLP aims to assist registered nurses as they complete their education to become qualified nursing faculty. Recipients are required to teach for at least four consecutive years following graduation to be eligible for loan forgiveness through NFLP.
